DEME SIGNS AGREEMENT TO ACQUIRE NORWEGIAN OFFSHORE WIND INFRASTRUCTURE COMPANY HAVFRAM
Brussels / Oslo – April 2025
In a significant move poised to reshape the offshore wind landscape, DEME Group (Euronext: DEME) has signed an agreement to acquire Havfram, a leading offshore wind contractor based in Oslo, Norway. This strategic acquisition reinforces DEME's ambition to solidify its global presence in offshore wind infrastructure and further strengthens its capabilities in turbine and foundation installation.
About Havfram: A Rising Offshore Wind Player
Havfram has emerged as a key player in offshore wind transport and installation services, with a focus on enabling the next wave of global offshore wind development. The company is primarily owned by Sandbrook Capital, a climate-focused private equity firm, and PSP Investments, one of Canada’s largest pension funds. Together, they have supported Havfram’s rapid growth and innovation within the sector.
Currently, Havfram is developing two next-generation wind turbine installation vessels (WTIVs), which are expected to be delivered in Q4 2025 and early 2026, respectively. These vessels have already been contracted for major projects starting in the second half of 2026. The company boasts a strong order backlog of approximately €600 million, covering projects from 2026 through 2030, including several of the world's largest offshore wind farms. With a lean and agile team of around 50 employees, Havfram is headquartered in Oslo and has built a reputation for innovation and reliability in the offshore wind segment.
Strategic Rationale: Enhancing DEME’s Offshore Edge
DEME CEO Luc Vandenbulcke highlighted the strategic alignment between DEME and Havfram, emphasizing the importance of offshore wind in the energy transition:
“DEME’s investment in Havfram underscores our unwavering belief in the immense potential of offshore wind infrastructure as a key element in the global energy transition. This acquisition complements our fleet and will bolster our competitive edge in both turbine and foundation installations, enhancing our operational flexibility and interchangeability.”
The acquisition of Havfram enables DEME to integrate state-of-the-art WTIV capabilities into its fleet, expanding its ability to serve complex offshore wind projects at a larger scale. This move is set to enhance DEME’s leadership position and competitiveness in a fast-evolving market where vessel availability, technical flexibility, and execution capacity are becoming critical differentiators.
Conclusion: A Synergistic Leap Forward
With the global offshore wind market rapidly scaling up, DEME’s acquisition of Havfram represents a timely and forward-looking decision. The deal brings together two strong players with complementary strengths—DEME’s operational track record and global footprint combined with Havfram’s modern fleet and forward-looking orderbook.
As the energy transition accelerates, strategic acquisitions like this will be pivotal in shaping the future of offshore wind deployment.
